Inspired by Thomas Sankara’s legacy of environmentalism. In 2025, thousands of citizens, grassroots organizations and authorities from the West African country came together from a call from their head of state, Captain Ibrahim Traoré: to plant 5 million trees in one hour.
The government also aims is to create a medicinal plant nursery in each province of the country. Support came from international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which contributed with 30.000 seedlings.
