At the United Nations Ocean Conference June 2025 world leaders, scientists, communities and organizations looked to enforce 4 key areas:
- High Seas Treaty, a UN international agreement to protect two-thirds of the ocean globally - the high seas - from overfishing, damaging shipping activities and exploration activities like deep sea mining. 60 countries need to ratify the Treaty. Until then, the High Seas Treaty will not be able to protect marine species and unique ecosystems.
- Marine Conservation and ChemTrust Campaigning against forever chemicals.
- Expanding marine conservation work in the UK Overseas Territories. The Caribbean UK Overseas Territories are home to over 94% of the UK’s unique biodiversity, including endemic species like the Cayman Islands' parrotfish and the Falkland Islands' rockhopper penguin, and fragile carbon-rich coral reefs and seagrass that are home to threatened species like turtles and sharks.
- Engaging the community with Ocean Literacy
