Marine biologist Dr Silvia Earle was one of the first female scientists to lead a marine exhibition. The Tektite II Project involved a group of all-female scientists. The design of Tektite was created as a research vessel for divers while they were on excursions. The Tektite I habitat was designed and built by General Electric Company.
