Professor Stephen Heck, a researcher at Stony Brook University and Carl LoBue, New York oceans director at The Nature Conservancy set out to manage one of New York State’s designated 16 artificial reefs. An area of both natural and human-made reefs, that now have an abundance of ocean life.

"There’s a lot we don’t know about underwater habitat in the ocean. The more we learn, the better positioned we are to protect it—and in some cases, to create it. "
Carl LoBue, New York oceans director at The Nature Conservancy
